Since the end of last summer, the Club has been in a transitionary period; needing an infusion of energy and some revised direction. To that end, I’m thrilled to announce the appointment of Deirdre Moynihan as Executive Director. Deirdre has an infectious passion for youth cycling, and is a respected event organizer. You might be familiar with a few of the activities she’s promoted: Wacky Ride, Mt Evans Hill Climb, Denver Century, Tri Velo Series Jr. Road and CX Camps and Mile High Urban CX Chaos. Clearly, Deirdre is well connected with many organizations to reach this level of accomplishment. Most recently, she’s assembled a Colorado Youth Cycling Coalition to connect the many groups that offer resources and support “kids on bikes” at all levels. The vision is to offer a single point for interested individuals to donate bikes or access bikes, learn about rides, find mentor opportunities, and join a team. Deirdre has already shown a talent for leveraging her contacts in gaining grants, getting race fees waived, and acquiring bicycle related swag.
The Board is anticipating our Executive Director to relieve much of the “hands on” work previously undertaken by the Board, enabling the Board to fulfill an advisory role and other engagements as they choose. Deirdre will focus on re-structuring the neighbourhood youth program; bringing in new participants and mentor volunteer members. With new direction, we will seek to re-engage financial donors and bring on new funding sources to maintain our programming. We also seek to collaborate with other organizations committed to youth cycling in bringing fresh blood and energy to our volunteer base. Making it fun again, at all levels.
Behind the scenes, we’ve made significant strides to update our website: www.FrontRangersDenver.org. We’ve also created a new promotional identity for the Bannock Criterium, with expectations of building our race into a larger community event, including partnerships and collaborations with other recognized community organizations. Check out the race specific website: www.BannockStCrit.com The Bannock Criterium is scheduled for Sunday 31 July this year, and we’ll be seeking your volunteer support to make it anther success in its 23rd year.
With the transitions, the Club seeks to reestablish its leadership. Please let us know if you’d would be interested in positions on the Board of Directors. The Board is also considering a new logo design that might be used on a new “kit” (uniform) next year. If you have any ideas to share with our designer, please let us know.
